Pop Goes the Relief Valve:Shuta Multimedia Vlog Episode 127
On November 24, 2014, in Dickson City, PA, a pressure relief valve popped on a 16 inch natural gas pipe. This led to a spectacular geyser of natural gas which could be heard for miles. This video was taken from a semi-safe distance away in Olyphant, PA.
Witnesses described the sound as resembling a very large jet engine.
Authorities say there was never any danger to the community, because there was a good breeze.
From the WNEP story:
The Lackawanna County Emergency Management Agency says the public was never in any danger.
“Luckily today there was a pretty still breeze, so it dissipated pretty quickly and it broke up to the point it wasn’t any danger,” said deputy EMA director Rich Barbolish.
